I have been treating a lot of TMJ or tightness in the jaw muscles lately and want to explain how acupuncture can ease the pain and help you to stop grinding your teeth. Most often, TMJ results from chronic neck tightness, or from a car accident, sometimes poor dental work. It can be very painful, causing headaches and for you to grind away the enamel on your teeth. This is something that is effectively treated by acupuncture and results in immediate pain relief.
In treating TMJ, I palpate the neck and ask about computer work. Often our posture is poor on the computer, putting strain on our neck and jaw muscles. Whiplash injuries, even years old, can also cause chronic neck and jaw tightness. This leaves people with pain, poor sleep, headaches and increased stress. Time to get some treatment for it!

Acupuncture needles are placed in the neck, shoulders and jaw as well as in the hands and feet. The treatment is very relaxing and you will feel the stress in your neck and jaw melt away! It takes maintenance to keep your muscles relaxed, but as your muscle memory improves leading to healthy posture, you need less and less acupuncture. I can also teach you simple things to do at home to help this.
Please call if you have questions about how to decrease your neck and jaw tension and headaches. It is not something to ignore as it will result in increased pain over time and more trips to the dentist( which no one wants!).
Be well, enjoy this gorgeous weather! See you soon, Jane
